We have been looking back with nostalgia at classic newsreel footage as it prepares to mark 60 years since its first appearance at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Scotts first exhibited at Chelsea in 1964 when the show was attended by members of the Royal Family including HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother.
James Scott, Managing Director of Scotts of Thrapston, said, “It is amazing to see how much the Chelsea Flower Show has changed since our family business first exhibited there. What has not changed, however, is the expertise, skill and attention to detail that goes into our hand-crafted luxury summerhouses with their classic, timeless designs.” with additional models on display in miniature as part of the stand’s landscaping. Themes will include:
- A midsummer reading nook within a Newhaven Corner Summerhouse constructed from Red Grandis hardwood, with cedar shingle roof, decorative leaded glass, and chrome fittings. This whimsical retreat will be completed with a spray paint finish in Putty.
- An octagonal Burghley Summerhouse with cedar shingle roof, chrome fittings, free-standing modular seating, and a white-washed floor. Designed to re-create a coastal dining experience, the interior will deliver a Neptune-style clean, minimalist ambience using accents of pale oak and black.
- A gentleman’s retreat within a Sun Ray Garden Room, finished inside and out in Forest Green paint with tongue-and-groove effect lining to the walls, a cedar shingle roof and brass fittings. Fabrics and accessories in leather, velvet and tartan will recreate a gentleman’s club aesthetic.
Scotts has chosen an award-winning interior designer to help curate its summerhouse collection for Chelsea this year. Diana Irving, founder and creative director of Marblehead Home is a former summerhouse customer of Scotts. When she won ‘Home of the Year 2023’ as part of the 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine awards James Scott invited Diana to collaborate on the interior design element of its stand.
Landscaping for the stand is being created by Tom Garlick from Northamptonshire-based Landscape Concepts with whom Scotts have a longstanding working relationship.
The Scotts stand can be found at location WA187 at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024.
