The owners of Scutts Farm in Hampshire are aiming high as they embark on a new venture offering professional livery services for equestrians with the benefit of state-of-the-art facilities for horses and their riders. Scotts of Thrapston were asked to deliver a turnkey solution that has created what has been described as “a stunning stable yard with the wow factor.”

The 60-acre plot contained an existing an L-shaped yard constructed around four years ago by Scotts for private use as part of a family home. The brief from the new owners was to re-purpose the existing high-quality stables and augment them with additional accommodation to enable the launch of a premium equine business, Le Scut Equestrian.

Following a rigorous cost-value analysis, Scotts was appointed to deliver the entire project after exploring a range of competitors and alternative options including American barns. In response to the brief, Scotts created a fully enclosed stable courtyard with livery accommodation for 13 horses, plus additional feed and rug rooms, all secured behind bespoke entrance gates.

The new owners said, “The existing stables were clearly extremely well-built and still relatively new, so we were keen to retain them while increasing the stabling capacity for a professional venture. In terms of design considerations, we were constrained by the existing footprint of the paddock and so space was at a premium.”

“We commissioned Scotts to dismantle and re-locate the existing stables away from the house into an area where it would stand independently. It was extremely helpful to me to deal with a single point of contact for every aspect of this project.”

“The arena has been increased in size from 60m x 25m to an Olympic-standard 60m x 40m and completed with an all-weather surface and training mirrors. With quality show jumps and a varied cross-country course, we can cater for competition disciplines as well as providing the perfect environment for customers that are looking for a more relaxed riding experience.”

Each stable box is fitted with two-part doors and louvred windows with grilles. Every stable at Scutts Farm is installed with rubber matting and rubber walls to offer the highest standards of equine care. A CCTV link is available so that horse owners can check in on their animal remotely. The stable block is completed by a decorative clock tower feature.

“Because Scotts created the original stables, they were able to seamlessly blend the existing structures with the new. A fresh wood stain in a distinctive dark shade was applied to complete the aesthetic. With a clay-tiled roof, the stables are built to last as well being very smart.”

“Scotts delivered beyond expectations with their creation of a unique purpose-built fence boarded on both sides that extends the stable buildings creating an uninterrupted flow to the enclosed yard. As well as delivering an impressively grand effect, the fence acts as a useful windbreak and prevents stabled horses from becoming distracted by others out in the cross-country field.
