Scotts of Thrapston has been named as the winner of the Industry Award 2023 as part of the Wellingborough & East Northants Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
Scotts of Thrapston started life in Northamptonshire in 1920 when founder James Scott first commissioned local skilled craftspeople to build high-quality agricultural buildings. The business celebrated its centenary in 2020 after 100 successful years in business overseen by four generations of the same family in its rural Northamptonshire home. Chairman David Scott is the founder’s grandson, and his son James Scott is now running operations as managing director. Scotts employs over 100 people at its Thrapston base many of whom have been recognised with awards for long and dedicated service.
James Scott expressed his thanks to the organisers and award sponsors SEMLEP’s Growth Hub and said, “We’re delighted to have been honoured with this award which is a proper reflection of the hard work and dedication of the Scotts team over successive years.”
The business has built on its passion for the beauty of wood and its product portfolio has expanded to include luxury garden summerhouses, timber garages and outbuildings, and equestrian stables. Scotts maintains a high profile flying the flag for Northamptonshire manufacturing at events and exhibitions including Burghley and Badminton Horse Trials and the RHS Chelsea Flower where it has been a regular exhibitor since the 1960s.
Sister company, Scotts Timber Engineering, also has a production team based at Thrapston and works with major housebuilders and developers specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of timber engineered roof trusses, metal web joists, porches, and canopies, as well as carbarns and carports.
Scotts Timber Engineering is proud to be providing long-lasting, high-quality timber products for the next generation of new homes.
The business is highly focused on supporting its clients and customers to choose timber instead of carbon-intensive building materials. Scotts recognises the importance of protecting the environment for future generations and is committed to a process of continual improvement in its environmental impact. All Scotts’ manufactured products are Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified.
Scotts is committed to calculating and reducing its impact on climate change year-on-year in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C and has recently achieved its first carbon foot-printing certification from Go Climate Positive. Scotts’ carbon reduction plans include measuring the impacts of its supply-chain, products, and services.
Scotts is active within its local community and is proud to support projects including the Nene Park Trust and the Northamptonshire Health Charity and has been a member and supporter of the Northampton Saints Foundation for last two years.
